PERSONAL.

Mr and Mrs Charles Holmwood, of “Bushcroft,” Akura, are on a visit to Mr and Mrs E. L. Holmwood in the Whangarei district.

Mr B. M. Temple, late of Masterton. and now on the staff of Imperial Airways, Croydon, England, has passed the Air Ministry’s examination in connection with the Empire flying boats. The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Labour, left Wellington for the south by the inter-island steamer express last night to fulfil a number of Ministerial engagements in Christchurch and surrounding districts. These include arrangements for the inauguration of local body winter relief programmes. The Minister is expected back at Wellington on Wednesday next.

The many friends 'of Mrs Geo. Daubney will regret to learn of the death of her mother, Mrs Henry, which occurred at the residence of Mrs F. C. Atkinson, Wanganui, on Thursday morning last. Mrs Henry, who was of a bright congenial nature made many friends during her visits to Masterton.

Captain R. J. D. Davis, N.Z. Staff Corps, having reached the prescribed age, has retired after long and distintinguished service with the New Zealand Regular Forces. He took part in the Great War, and was badly wounded at Gallipoli. He was then returned to New Zealand and appointed assist-ant-musketry instructor’ at Trentham, where he helped train all subsequent reinforcements until the termination of the war.
