MISSION ACTIVITIES
WORK IN FIJI AND COOK ISLANDS WORLD’S LARGEST DIOCESE Many interesting views of mission stations and schools in the Fiji and Cook Island groups and of native life in the islands were shown at St Matthew's Parish Hall last night by the Rt Rev L. S. Kempthorne, Bishop of Polynesia. Bishop Kempthorne’s diocese, as far as area is concerned, is claimed to be the largest in the world. Although the area contains over 600 islands, a vast expanse is ocean. The mission ministers to the white population, which is considerable, throughout the area. In addition there is a fairly large number of Chinese, Solomon Islanders and Indians, among all of whom the mission carries on active work. Bishop Kempthorne, who is a New Zealander, is a son of the late Archdeacon Kempthorne, who was wellknown in Nelson many years ago.
