WRESTLING
WIN FOR BLOMFIELD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., April 21. Wrestling before a capacity house, Lofty Blomfield (16.10) beat Jack Kennedy, Texas (16.4), by a penalty fall to nil at Palmerston North tonight. It was the opening match of th<3 season, but did not produce the fireworks expected from the reputation of the wrestlers.
The bout went the full eight rounds, Blomfield obtaining his penalty fall in the fifth when Kennedy, retaliating after receiving several jolts, knocked the New Zealander through the ropes and prevented him from returning to the ring. Kennedy was soundly beaten for his tactics.
In the second round Kennedy released himself from an Indian deathlock by a trick and a kick, was saved from an octopus clamp in the seventh, and was trapped in the same hold in the eighth. Blomfield, however, could not stand up to apply the hold properly. The referee was Mr W. Nicholls. Palmerston North.
