■BRITISH CHAMPION BEATEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, April 20. Equalling his provincial record of 56 3-ssec„ D. H, Symes, Canterbury 100 yards title-holder, beat the British champion and Olympic and Empire Games representative Norman Wainwright by the barest of margins in a 100 yards match race at the tepid baths tonight. A 220 yards match between Wainwright and L. Newell, Canterbury and New Zealand champion over this distance, was won by 12 yards by Wainwright, the time, 2.27 3-5, being slightly slower than Newell's provincial record.
