FEATHERSTON

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the South Featherston Home and School Association was held last Thursday. Mrs Archie Clark was in the chair and there was a good attendance. The speaker for the afternoon was Dr Coutts, of Martinborough, who spoke of life in India where he had spent several years. He briefly sketched living conditions of Europeans and natives in India. At the conclusion of his interesting address the doctor was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The following officers were elected: President, Mr P. Wilton; vice-presid-ent, Mr L. Lumsden; chairwoman, Mrs Archie Clark; vice-chairwoman, Mrs Wilton; secretary, Mrs W. Stark; treasurer, Mrs B. Burt. A social committee of five was elected.

The retiring secretary (Mrs Gordon Burt) and the retiring treasurer (Mrs Ericson) were accorded a vote of thanks for their work during their term of office. A dainty afternoon tea was served at the conclusion of the meeting. WEDDING. CHERRY—SIMMONDS. The wedding was solemnised last Saturday at the Methodist Church of Elizabeth Gladys Simmonds, eldest daughter of ,Mr and Mrs R. H. Simmonds, South Featherston, and William Matthew, eldest son of Mr and Mrs L. Cherry, Featherston. The Rev H. White, Carterton, performed the ceremony. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a tunic frock of honey gold Angora cloth, brown fur necklet, hat and shoes. Her bouquet was of autumn flowers. Miss Betty Simmonds, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid and wore a frock of pale green suede satin trimmed with sequins and a brown halo hat and carried an autumn tinted bouquet. Mr K. Simmonds, brother of the bride, was best .jnan. ......... The church was decorated by the bride’s friends. After the ceremony the reception was held at' the bride’s home, where about 40 guests were entertained. Mrs Simmonds, wearing a navy costume with hat to match, brown fur and red shoulder spray, received the guests. Mrs Hyland, grandmother of the bridegroom, was dressed in black silk with black hat and pink shoulder spray. Later Mr and Mrs Cherry left for the South. PERSONAL. Mrs G. Gillies and Miss Burnett, Pirinoa, left today to spend a holiday in Wellington.
