TOURNAMENT AT AUCKLAND. SHIELD 'WON BY VICTORIA COLLEGE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 19. Victoria University College won the shield for the highest number of points scored in the annual New Zealand university tournament, which concluded with the tennis championships today. Before the decision of the tennis finals, Canterbury and Victoria were in line for the honours. By its wins in the women's singles, women’s doubles, men’s singles, and men’s doubles, Victoria scored nine points against Canterbury's three toward the shield, leaving Victoria the winner. Winners in the various competitions were: Rowing, Victoria; basketball, Victoria; shooting, Victoria; tennis, Victoria; boxing, Otago; athletics, Canterbury; swimming, Canterbury. The total points -won by each college were: Victoria. 28.',; Canterbury, 19; Otago, 15',; Auckland. 13. Victoria was winner of the tennis cup, with 19 points, and Canterbury was runner-up with 9 points, closely followed by Otago with 7 points. Auckland failed to score a single point. Burr (Otago), White, Millard (Canterbury). Rose, Hansen. Broad (Victoria). A cox’s cap was awarded to Martin (Canterbury).
