RANGITUMAU BRANCH. The final meeting of the year of the Rangitumau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union took place at the Hall on Thursday last. There was a good attendance. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on April 12. Mrs P. Welch, assisted by Mrs Tankersley, gave a practical demonstration on the making of tapestry stools. These two ladies were asked to judge the afternoon monthly and annual competitions for which there was a good display. The best article from a flour bag was Miss E. Duckett's dyed and embroidered cushion, Mrs C. J. MacDonald taking second place with an embroidered traycloth. In connection with the five decorated tables, another afternoon competition, Mrs A. Chorley and Mrs D. Stuart took first and second places, respectively. The flower competitions resulted as follows: —Best 3 bloom collection: Mrs Wrigley 1, Miss I. Harvey 2. Single blooms: Miss E. Duckett 1, Miss I. Harvey 2. The “all year” competition for the best cushion —wool embroidered —was won by Mrs C, J. MacDonald. Miss E. Duckett’s entry was second.

Miss F. Kemble and Miss E. Duckett took equal honours for the bestworked piece of tapestry accomplished during the year. At the close of the meeting Mrs James (president) presented the prizes, four of which were donated by herself. Other donors were Mrs E. T. Wilton, Miss I. Harvey, Mrs L. R. Wilton, Mrs F. Wrigey and Mrs and Miss Duckett. Mrs James accorded a vote of thanks to Mrs Welch and Mrs Tankersley, and handed them both an Easter gift. The “wandering shilling” went to Mrs L. R. Wilton.

Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Duckett and Mrs M. Wilton.
