Art Union Drawing. The drawing of the "It's Mine” Art Union is to take place at 6 o’clock tonight in Wellington. Sheep at a Shilling a Head. Owing to the dry season old ewes are selling in the market at Dunedin at a shilling a head. This is reminiscent of the prices which often ruled in Masterton in the days before the meat freezing industry was established. Clerk’s Smart Work. What probably constitutes a record for lhe Dominion has been achieved by Mr Dudley Bockett, town clerk of Te Awamutu, who four days after the close of the financial year had prepared and completed the balance sheets of the' three local bodies of which he is treasurer.
Half Holiday Poll. As the result of a petition signed by one-tenth of the people of the Hastings district electoral roll, a poll will be taken to decide the statutory half-holiday in the borough. For some time there has been uncertainty in Hastings as to the suitability of Thursday as a half-holiday, and the petition has been presented with the idea of testing the wish of the people. Hawke Breaks Windscreen. The Waikato County Council traffic inspector, Mr G. G. Winter, Hamilton, had an unusual experience when motoring at Gordontown on Wednesday. A hawk flew from the road and crashed into the windscreen of Mr Winter’s motor-car, shattering the glass. The bird was injured, and was quickly killed by Mr Winter, who had suffered cuts from flying glass.
