FEATHERSTON
McGILL SHIELD. (“Times-Age” Special) A pleasant function took place at the primary school yesterday afternoon, when the McGill Shield was presented by the donor, Mr M. G. McGill. The shield was won by the “Kowhai House,” Mr McGill, in a happy little speech, congratulated the winners and run-ners-up on their fine efforts. He also mentioned that it was very pleasing to hear that the school had this year gained more swimming certificates than in any previous year. At the conclusion of the presentation, Mr Pendegrast, headmaster, thanked Mr McGill and called for thre cheers from the children, which were heartily given. PAINFUL ACCIDENT. A painful accident befel Mr Manuel Benton, of- Kahautara, the other day, when the horse he was riding fell on him. He suffered injuries to both his legs. PERSONAL. Mrs Algar Williams has been appointed local branch secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society Miss Mudford and Mrs S. Hutchinson, Wellington, are the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Harkness, Bell Street. Mr Terrence Taylor, who has been an inmate of the Wellington Hospital for the past few weeks, has now returned -home for a month, after which he wil return to the hospital for further treatment. Mrs Munn and Miss Dawn Benton, of Wellington, are spending the weekend with Mrs Stanley Benton, KahauClaude Brash, of H.M.S. Achilles, who underwent an operation to his leg in the Wellington Hospital recently, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
