EKETAHUNA
FIRE BRIGADE MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Superintendent H. E. Rogers presided at the annual meeting of the Eketahuna Fire Brigade. The annual report stated: —In submitting this, the twenty-eighth annual report of the Eketahuna Municipal Fire Brigade your executive have pleasure in congratulating the town on its freedom from fires, there being only one call during the year and that was for a chimney fire on the last day of the year. All musters have been well attended and the members are all very keen on their work. The various brigade competitions held during the year have been keenly contested. The election of officers resulted as follows:--Superintendent, H. E. Rogers (unopposed); Deputy-Supt., H. M. Daniel (unopposed); secretary, S. Daniel; treasurer, J. Dickson; foreman, J. A. Ryan; station-officer, J. H. Ryan (unopposed); motorman, H. Gyde. GIFT AFTERNOON. An enjoyable time was spent at the home of Mrs Marenzi on Wednesday afternoon, the occasion being a gift afternoon to Miss D. Toohill, whose marriage will take place shortly. A penny competition was held and was won by Mrs W. Dawson. 1 Mrs Hood played a piano solo very nicely and Mrs R. Fox contributed vocal numbers. ■ A delicious afternoon tea was served, after which Miss Toohill opened her numerous parcels of varied and attractive gifts and thanked all present for their kindness and good wishes; and also expressed grateful thanks to the hostesses, Mesdames A. Hansen and Marenzi. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna District High School Committee was held on Monday evening when Mr H. E. Greathead (chairman) presided. A recommendation was made to the School Jubilee Surplus Disposal Committee, that a wireless set with additional speakers be installed at both the Primary and Secondary Departments. The secretary was instructed, to make application to the Board for an additional class-room at the Secondary Department, and a lawn mower for the Primary. The Headmaster and Secretary were appointed a committee to interview Board members in respect to the new proposed bus route. Messrs R. Payne and R. Fox were appointed the visiting committee for the month.
