CARTERTON

BOWLING COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Yesterday at the Carterton green two rinks from the Upper Hutt Club met a number of local players, and an enjoyable day was spent. Following are the results of the games played, the home teams being successful in each rink: —Callender, Stevens, Stent Hughan (s), 27, defeated Leslie, James, Braid, Mumby (s), 10; Smith, G. Steven, Riggs, Simmonds (s), 25, defeated Rev Hunt, Gibbs, Horn, Quin (s), 24. In a game played for the De Lacey Buttons on Wednesday evening the holders (Forbes and Riggs), 18, defeated the challengers (Callender and Barber), 16.

On Saturday matches will be played between the President’s and VicePresident’s teams, the losers to pay for the afternoon tea. Members are invited to be at the green by 1.30 o’clock. During Easter tournaments will be held at the Carterton green on each day of the holidays. P. AND A. SOCIETY. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society will take place tomorrow morning at Carterton. BOROUGH ELECTIONS. In view of the approach of the Municipal elections, every resident eligible should make certain that his or her name is on the district electors’ list. It should be borne in mind that the borough roll is quite a different thing to the roll for the Wairarapa Electoral District, which is used for the election of members of Parliament. NATIONAL PARTY DANCE. The dance and euchre party held last evening under the auspices of the National Party was a very successful affair. The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Messrs V. Ashton and J. Manley. The music was supplied by Udy’s orchestra. The prizewinners in the euchre tournament were Mr Percy Hodder (first) and A. M. Paterson (second). In the ladies’ contest four drew for the first prize and divided the first and second prizes.’ They were Mesdames A. M. Paterson, Harold Renall, F. Groube, and -T. B. Challis.

The Monte Carlo Waltz was won by Miss Lorenzen and partner. The supper was provided By a ladies’ committee and greatly appreciated.
