GEM OF THE PACIFIC

ALL-COLOUR FILM OF NEW ZEALAND AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION’S PUBLICITY SCHEME A valuable adjunct to New Zealand’s publicity is an all-colour film of 800 ft "The Gem of the Pacific,” which has just been completed by the Auckland Automobile Association. This will be used to show to overseas visitors who have only a short period to spend in New Zealand, so that they may choose ship names introduced from Greek association also will take the film overseas so as to give intending travellers a more comprehensive knowledge of the beauties of the various scenic attractions.

The film is accompanied by a running commentary and takes 15 minutes to show. At a recent private screening to members of the' council and to others who had assisted in the production of the film, the president of the association, Mr F. G. Farrell, said that when officers overseas attempt to describe the beauties of the Dominion they are often accused of exaggeration. The film, however, will give a comprehensive survey of cities, homes and colourful gardens, primary and secondary industries, travel by road, rail and air in both the North and South Islands, and glimpses of agriculture and educational subjects. The film was produced by the touring department of the association.

In addition to this film, the touring department took advantage of the ideal summer to take numerous pictures in natural colour of popular holiday resorts adjacent to Auckland and through the southern portion of the Auckland Province. Thus they will be able to reproduce scenece of the resorts as they actually appear in holiday time, so that the tourist may make his own decision. The film will be used in the office of the association, and also will be shown at country meetings of members. It should be an adequate reply to the usual requests received be-; fore the holiday period of “Where shall I go this Christmas.
