HELPING DELINQUENTS
SERVICE BY Y.M.C.A. “In the wider field of Community Service,” observed the annual report of the Y.M.C.A., “the association has a record of activity of which it can be justly proud.. It could with truth be said that the Masterton Y.M.C.A. does no finer work than that of helping delinquent boys to a better way of living. A history of the boys who have passed through our hands- during the past eight or ten years as supervision cases from the Children’s Court would prove interesting reading, and although 100 per cent success cannot be claimed, yet the exceedingly large percentage of boys who make good is both encouraging and gratifying. During 1937-38, 178 Child Welfare interviews were recorded, which represents a good deal more time and patience than is generally thought. The number under supervision at the end of the year was seven.”
