Mr Milton Alpass, of Konini, has left for a holiday trip to England.. Mr Arthur Barlow, of H.M.S. Leander, has been confirmed in his rank of warrant electrician. Mr Barlow is one of the few New Zealanders who have risen to warrant rank.

Mr C. E. Robertson, stud stock manager for Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., left by the Awatea yesterday to attend the Sydney Royal Show yearling sales and the Easter racing carnival.

Mr Paul Falla, of the Foreign Office, London, and formerly of Wellington, has been appointed to a post in the British Embassy at Warsaw. Mr Falla is a son of Mr N. S. Falla, chairman and managing director of the Union Limited.

A London cable message states that the engagement has been announced of Algy Elmsley, son of Mrs and the late Mr Fortesque Dalgety, of. Wanganui, to Vera Helen, daughter of Colonel E. H. and the late Mrs Dalgety, of Bedford.

Following a request by a representative deputation of citizens, Mr. G. H. Trott has announced his candidature for the Wanganui mayoralty. He will oppose the present mayor, Mr W. J. Rogers. Mr Trott is chairman of the Wanganui City Council’s gas committee.

Advice has been received of the death at Brisbane of Mr J. Carter, formerly manager of the Union Bank of Australia at Palmerston North, and well known in the Wairarapa. He was transferred to Brisbane some years ago. Mr Carter was highly esteemed during his (residence in Palmerston North. He was a proficient musician, and as a violinist was a member of the old Orchestral Society. He was also a member of the All Saints’ Church Vestry and of the United Manawatu Lodge, No. 1721. He was shortly to have retired from the bank’s service. His wife and a son, who is studying medicine at Sydney, survive him. His daughter died at London several years ago.
