The pillars of the new bridge across the Elbe at Hamburg are to be of granite instead of stel, for the sake of economy. The bridge will be. the loftiest in Europe, its pillars rising higher han Cologne Cathedral. It will be 750 yards long, and the arch will be 230 feet above water-lvel. Six tracks for motor-cars, cyclists and pedestrians will have under them six railway tracks.
