PROPOSED NEW POST OFFICE FOR TE AWAMUTU.
The calling for tenders, which close on 3rd July, for the erectlKi of the Te Awamutu post office will be welcome news for every resident. At last this much needed work appears to be within measureable distance of completion. The building is to be of brick, and covers over 1800 superficial feet being nearly four times the size of the present unnameable horror. While it will be a decided ornament to the town, yet the best of it is in the internal arrangements and fittings rather than in outside show. The mail room alone has 250 feet more floor space than the whole of the present building. The public room is 26 x 12 with a sixteen foot counter surmounted by the latest thing in brass screens: The postmaster's room is 13 x,IO and telephone exchange 12 x 10. A big strong room is provided, and the sound-proof room for bureau purposes will give the users what they pay for, and what they have never yet had in Te Awamutu, viz, privacy. A , roomy private letter box lobby on the left of the vestibule will be a great convenience, box-holders will get their mail without going into the public office. It is to be hoped that no time will be lost in commencing this work, for the towns-peo-ple have too long suffered from the inconveniences of the presentstructure. We may reasonably expect to see it finished, and in occupation before the end of the year.
