COMMERCIAL.

THE STOCK MARKET. Last week sales were conducted at Pabiatua and Palmerston. At the former entries were smaller than advertised on account of tho weather. The attendance was larger than usual and good value given for the lines under offer, excepting dairy heifers, which were far from profit. At Palmerston the supplies were in excess of advertised numbers, and the attendance good. Bidding was well maintained, particularly for cattle, very little passing the ring unsold and at prices quite up to vendors’ expectations, little stock leaving the yard unsold. Pabiatua —Cattle 3 year steers £3 15s, dairy heifers in calf £2 12s 6d, £2 17s Gd, £3 12s Gd, weaners 16s. Sheep —2 and 4-tooth wethers, 11s 4d.

At Palmerston there was a full yarding of sheep but cattle were in limited numbers, being mostly cows and heifers in calf. There was a good attendance and bidding was brisk, everythiug with the exception of two penß of sheep, being sold under the hammer.

Palmerston—Cattle—Fat cows £3 18<, forward cows £2 16s, 20 months steers 40b, 15 to 18 months steers 395, weaners 13s to 255, dairy heifers in calf £5 Is, £3, £2 12s, £2 10s. Sheep—Pat and forward wethers 12s Gd, 2 tooth wethers 10s Bd, woolly lambs 7s 7d, cull ewes 6s 7d to 6s lid.

Pigs—Weaners 10s to 13s. At Colyton only a small entry came forward coneieting of forward ewes and lambs and heifers in calf. Bidding was not brisk but eventually everything was cleared at satisfactory prices.

Colyton—Sheep—Pat and forward ewes 9s 8d to 9s 6d, forward ewes Bs, woolly lambs 7s to 7a 7d, shorn lambs 6s to 6a 9d, store ewes 5s 6d. Cattle—Heifers in calf £2 16s, quiet dairy heifere in calf £3 17s 6d to £4 28 6d, springing cows £4 7s.
