Raglan Town Board

At the meeting of the Raglan Town Board all the commissioners except Mr Rutherford were present. Acting on the suggestion received from Mr S. Foss, it was resolved that the lamp at the corners of Bow and Green street should be removed and erected at the junction of John and Cliff streets. It was further resolved that the harbourmaster should be asked to move in the direction of having a lamp fixed up at the old wharf.

The police are to be requested to prevent riding and driving on the foot paths. The chairman reported that whereas the contract time for the street construction works had expired at the end of April, he had communicated with the engineers, who had suggested that the time should be expended. The work was now proceeding at a satisfactory rate. —it „was resolved that the matter be left in abeyance pending a formal application for extension of time being received from the contractors. The board decided, after considerable discussion, to accept Mr Kyngdon’s offer of part of a section on the town hi if for the purpose of a deviation provided no restrictions bo placed on the gift.

The suggestion that the general rate should be struck earlier this year led to the question of the possibility of there being a re-valuation of the county this year, and the clerk was instructed to ascertain whether a revaluation was likely to be undertaken at an early date.

Telegrams received from the Superintendent of the State Guaranteed Advances Department concerning the loan were read, and it was agreed by those present that as the telegrams proved that the whole of the procedure entitling the board to the £600 loan under the Local Bodies Lands Act had been duly completed prior to the coming into operation of the State Guaranteed Advances Act, the board was justified in making an effort to secure the money at the lower rate of interest provided in the firslnamed measure, and it was resolved that Commissioner Pelham, who was going to Wellington on private business, should ascertain the board’s legal rights with regard to the matter by an interview with counsel to the Municipal Association of New Zealand, to whom the clerk was instructed to forward a statement of the full facts of the case. The following accounts were passed for payment: —E. Addison, £5 11s 4d; D. Stewart, £2l is; T. Freeman, £4 10s; travelling expenses and disbursements in connection with loan matters, £t) 4s 6d; petty cash, £l.
