A PROHIBITION PROBLEM.
(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Chbistchubch, Last Night. A CHARGK against Messrs P. Cross and Son, a Christchurch fiim of spirit merchants, of soliciting orders for whisky in Ashburton, a prohibited district, was heard before Mr Haselden, S.M., this morning. The alleged soliciting consisted in an advertisement in the Ashburtou Guardian, announcing that a certain brand of whisky could be supplied, and that country orders would be promptly attended to. Mr G. Harper, for the defenoe, submitted that soliciting under the Aicoholio Liquors Aot meant personal canvas by a person in a prohibited district. Mr T. W. Stringer, for tho prosecution, contended the advertisement was a particular method of solicitation addressed to local people. Judgment; was reserved.
