EDUCATION QUESTION.

THE PREMIER'S PROPOSALS

(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION) Wellington, Last Night. The Premier intends to approach the education question in a determined manner, and to thoroughly grapple with the question with tho object of drafting a comprehensive scheme from one end of the system to the other. To this effect he has moved that a committee be appointed for the purpose of inquiring aud reporting, (1), on primary education, and especially with renard to the curriculum now existing; (2), on secondary education, the subjects taught, the standard of proficiency, and age limit for adirission; (3), on higher education, the working of universities generally, conditions, aud the advisabili y or other wise of each college devoting its attention to specialities ; (4), on technical edacatiou and manual instrutiou, advice upon the system now obtainiug, and re> port as to extensions essential to ittiprovement: (5), training schools as colleges for teachers; (6), on schools for the education of the native race, and (7)) on such bills affecting education, schools, aud educational matters as may be referred to it. The committee consists of Messrs J Allen, Baume, Buddo, Ell, Fisher, Hogg, Fowlds, A. L. D. Frasher, Graham, Hull, Hanao, Hardy, Lethbridge, Lewis, Major, Massey, T. Mackenzie, McNab, Sir W. R. Russell, Mr Sidey, Sir W. J. Steward, Mr Wood, and the mover.
