FOOTBALL.
HAMILTON RDGBY UNION. To-MORROW afternoon a practice match between the 'A' and ' B ' teams will bo held on Sydney Square, and it is hoped that the players chosen will put in an appearance at tho appointed time. Two good fifteens have been chosen by Mr O. Speight, and an interesting game should result. After tho praotice the final selection will be made to meet the Waikato representatives on the following Saturday on Sydney Square.
At a meeting of the Thames Union on Wednesday evening, the request of the Hamilton Union for a visit from the Thames representatives was deferred for future consideration. It is to bo hoped that the matter will be favourably received, as the representatives from tho goldfields owe the local Union a visit. A writer discussing the alleged deca* dence of football says : 'The reasons for the decadence of the game in our midst are not hard to find. They are, broadly speaking, threefold : The introduction of wing forwards j the introduction of tho gambling element into the game ; and tho apparent unwillingness on the part of the average player to make himself conversant with the liner points of the game. 1
