CONCERT AT KARAMU.
A social and dance was held in the Karamu sohool on Monday, 22nd inst., an unusual departure for Karamuites, and, notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, it was a very successful gathering. People heroically rolled up from Te Bore, Tubikaramea, ond Whatawhata. A most enjoyable series of items was presented to a very appreciative audieuce, and the ensuing dance, owing to the boisterous nU'hl, was vigorously kept going till daylight. The idea was suggested that a social might help, so it was acted on, Mrs O'Grady working indefatigably, and being zealously helped by the neighbours, carried it to a very successful conclusion. Mr Steel made a very efficient chairman, opening the social with a very neat and felicitous speech, Roing back ia his remembrance to the time when an organ was indeed a rara avis in country places, and humorously alluding to the discord that often resulted by starting too high or too low in the singing. The programme, successfully rendered and much applauded, consisted of: —Song, ' She Wore a Wreath of Roses,' Mrs O'Grady ' j song, 'The Death of Nelson,' Mr Fell; trio, ' Whispering Hope," Mrs antherland and the Misses Smith ; song, 'The Village Blacksmith.'
