The tender of E, Porter and Co., of Auckland (£7879) Ims been accepted by the Petone Borough Council for the supply of pipes and other ironwork in connection with its waterworks scheme. Dunedin, This Day. John Fagan, a bookmaker, who severely assaulted Robert Bain, of the Jockey Club, a private detective, on the 9th inst., was yesterday committed for trial. Napier, This Day. The following motion was adopted by a meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday : ‘ That the Trustees of the Napier Hospital consider the time has arrived when a hospital for the special treatment of cancer cases should be erected in one of the large centres, and that the trustees of the various hospitals in the colony be requested to co-operate with a view of approaching the Government to take steps to have such an institution erected as early as possible.
