MESSRS McNICOL AND Co'S SPECIAL HORSE SALE.

This gigantic sale was commenced at Cambridge yesterday, and will probably last until Saturday evening. Buyers are present from all over the colony, one of the largest purchasers yesterday being Mr Wm. Hawkins, of Christchurob, the well-known buyer of remounts for India. The sale commenced with entires, and Major Fleming was knocked down to Mrßiay, of Onehuuga, at 71 guineas, and the Messrs West Bros,, of Glen Murray, purchased Burnside at £65. Mr W. Ring got Freedom at 27 guineas. A number of other entires were offered, but did not sell under the hammer, but we hear several of them will probably change hands privately. After the entires the unbroken light horses were offered, and Ihe prices realised were up to £26 10s. Then the unreserved light horses were put up. They were a very mixed assortment, but amongst them were a lot of good ones, and some made up to £2O. Then unreserved harness horses and hacks were offered, and some of them made £24 10s. Two hundred aud seven were sold yesterday, and to-day the sale is being continued. The draughts will he offered on Friday, aud that will he the time the large prices will be forthcoming.
