HAMILTON CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of the Hamilton Cricket Association waa held in the Wesleyan Schoolroom last evening. There was a good attendance, and Mr J. S. Bond (Vice-President) presided. Annual Report.— The Secretary read the annual report as follows Your Committee have pleasure in presenting their annual report for the season 19001901. Three clubs only joined the Asmoiaiion—viz., Slade’s, Arawaa and Toilers, and after an interesting series of games, the caps were won easily by the Arawa Cricket Club. The results of the matches were as follows :
Trophies were kindly offered for com petition by Messrs Bond, Howden and Tucker, and were won as follows Highest butting average, Mr J. Hammond, average 13.3; best bowling, Mr VV. Gleeson, average 2*57 ; best fielding, Mr D. Rosa. Representative matches were also played with Taupiri (2), Tuhikaramea. Cambridge and Auckland, and out of these Hamilton won three (Taupiri, Tuhikaramea and Cambridge) aud lost two (Auckland and Taupiri). During the season your committee went to the expense of putting down an asphalt pitch, which proved to be a great improvement on the earthen pitch previously played upon. Unfortunately, the asuhalt had to he taken up at the end of the year ao that the ground might be in a tit state for football during the winter. The balance sheet submitted by the treasurer shows a serious deficit of £6 14s. Your committee have, however, decided to hold a concert on September 25th, aud have little doubt but by means of it the debt will be liquidated.—The report was adopted. Officers.— The election of officers resulted us follows: —Patron : Mr Lang, M.H.R.; President: Mr Geo. Edgecumhe; vice-Presidents : Messrs J. S. Bond, T. Slade and K. Brookfield ; Managing Committee: Presidents, VicePresidents, Secretary and Messrs Mahon, Worsley, Speight, Blackburn, Manning and Rev, H. L. Blamires ; Selector, Rev H. L. Blamires.
Resignation.— Mr H. Worsley resigned his position as secretary, and though pressed to accept office again, refused to do so.—A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Worsley for his services during the past year.—Mr F. Bond was appointed to succeed him. Allotting Players.— lt was decided that the general commitee should allot players to the various clubs so that the teams may be as well matched as possible.
New Pitch.—lt was resolved to make a recommendation to the general committee that an asphalt pitch be laid down as soon as possible. Thanks.— Votes of thanks were passed to . the Managing Committee, donors of trophies and the ladies who so kindly provided afternoon tea. Opening of the Season.— The first match of the season will he played on the first Saturday in October, when the cricketers will probably play the footballers.
