A succession of heavy northerly winds has been blowing night and day almost without intermission, aud there is no present prospect of any change. There has been little or uo rain, in fact the rainfall for the last three months is scarcely half the average. Nelson, Last Night, A young man giving the uame of. Whittall, and styling himself the Earl of Northesk, was sentenced to two years' by Judge Denuiston to-day on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences at Brightwater on Monday. Accused, who pleaded guilty, had been previously convicted of a similar crime five times during the present year at different places.
