(BY TKLKUKAPIf—FRIiSS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Trades Council has decided to assist its members in gaining information upon the subject of federation with Australia, and public men who are favourablcto and against federation are being invited to contribute a series of addresses. Dr. Gow is simply appointed Superintendent of one of the asylums of the colony in which there is a vacancy at the present time, and the appointment just made may result in an all round change of Superintendents of asylums from the institutions they are at present directiug to others. Messrs J. W. Devine, Geo. Fisher, T. Kennedy McDonald and L. J. B. Harcourt are mentioned as probable candidates for the Mayoralty. Hatzatkis was committed for trial in the Tolosa stabbing cases. Bail was alio we'd. Thos. Grant, for assaulting the Chief Officer of the Tolosa, was sentenced to seven days, the S.M., taking into consideration the fact that ho had been in gaol since September 2nd. A case arising out the misapropriationof£lloo by Cathro, who was convicted at last sessious. occupied the Supreme Court to-day in a civil form. W, P. Studholme sues the Advances Settlers Office for that amount on the ground that it was paid into Prior's trust account without his authority, aud before Prior was authorised to receive it and that having disappeared the Advances Office is responsible as Prior was a solicitor at Feildiug for the office, and for the defence it is contended that he received the money on behalf of plaintiff as plaintiff's solictor. Cathro, was one of tho witnesses called.'
