POLO AT CAMBRIDGE.
On Tuesday the Cambridge Polo Tournament commenced, when the Waingaro players did battle with the local ones. The sides were :—Waingaro : A. Upton, No. 1; H. Bull, No. 2; B. Hewitt (Captain), No. 3; R. Seaville, back. Cambridge: C. C. Buckland, No. 1; N. Banks (Captain), No. 2 ; R. Hannon, No. 3 ; C. Potts, back. It was arranged that the game should consist of five spells of 10 minutes each, and the play was of a most exciting kind. Waingaro scored first, but the Cambridge team soon equalised matters by responding with a go&l. Right up to the close the play was fast and furious, and when the whistle went the score stood at four all. It was then arranged to hive a further game till one or other of the sides scored. Cambridge quickly got a goal, but it was not allowed, and then the visitors scored, so the victory was theirs. A large number of visitors were present and afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs James Hally, assisted by the Misses Buckland, Wells, Hunt and Empsou. A Polo match between the members of the Te Rata and Cambridge Clubs will take place at 2 p.m. this afternoon, and in the evening the ball to wind up the proceedings will be held.
