The public rolled up in numbers, and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was spent. A large number of ladies giaced the gathering by their presence, and took great interest in the various events. Fortunately there were not any accidents, but the situations of both horses and riders were sometimes very comical, and caused screams of laughter. There were upwards of fifty buggies on the ground, and the young people in them had a real good time. We congratulate the committee of the Cambridge Club on this their initial gathering, and trust they may have many equally successful. The following is a list of the events and winners : Hurdle Race of one mile, over four flights. Mr L. Allen's Kitty (owner) 1 Mr H. Wilson's Lady Clara (T. C. Wilson) 2 Mr M. Wells' Violet (B. Hannon) ... 3 Four started. This was a splendid race. Lady Clara and Violet held the lead to the last hurdle, when Kitty came with a rush and got home by ncarly a length. Bending Competition. For this there were no less than 16 eutries, the winners of the heats being H. Bull's Billington, W. Banks' Kia Ora, G. H. Bull's Baldy, H. Wilson's Antics, and B. Hewitt'-s Curry. In the final heat all the competitors knocked down the sticks, and upon its being run over again Mr Banks on Kia Ora vyon, his opponents knocking down the sticks when they were leading. Polo Ball Race. Ihis was wou by Mr Banks. Mr Buckland being second and Mr Upton third. Mr Hannon would have had a say in this but he sent his ball the wrong way round the post and was disqualified. The Cup. This was a half-mile, weight according to height. Mr N. Banks' Kia Ora (Hannon) ... 1 Mr T. C. Wilsou's Millicent (Owner) 2 Mr Schnackenberg's Tuleika (H. Wilson) 3 Six started, Kia Ora won by several lengths. Ladies' Bracelet. In this the competitors had to run a chain to a lady, have a needle threaded, run back to their ponies and gallop two furlongs. The event took a considerable time, as no less than six heats had to be run off. The result was : Miss Allen's Kitty 1 Miss R. Allen's Tiwa 2 Miss E. Wilson's Millicent 3 In the last heat Mr Banks was thrown out by vaulting over his pony instead of on to it. The event caused much excitement, especially amongst the fair sex. Tandem Race. In this Mr Potts was an easy winner, a desperate fight for second place taking place between Messrs Wilson and Buckland, the former winning by a few inches. All but Mr Potts got stuck up in various parts of the course, but they somehow got together at the finish, and four were bunched together when the straight was reached. Cigah and Umbrella Race. Banks' Kia Ora 1 Hannon'B Tommy The Dodger ... 2 A. Wilson's Porange 3 Consolation Race. Tuleika 1 Millicent 2 Violet 3 Seven started. Won rather easily.
