WEDDING AT HAMILTON.
Notwithstanding the heavy downfall of rain which occurred about 9.30 on Tuesday morning, Hamilton looked quite gay, and crowds of people in summer attire were wending their way to St. Peter's Church, needless of the ungracious elements. The occasion was the marriage of Mr J. G. Palairet, eldest son of Mr G R Palairet, of Gisborne, and Miss Alice M. H Sandes, third daughter of Mr R. P. Sandes, ot Hamilton. The bridegroom was for several years connected with the Hamilton branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, during which time he made a host of friends, while the bride has spent the best part of her life in that town, and being a great favourite with everyone, it was only natural that the event caused quite a flutter of excitement. The interim before the arrival of the bridal party was spent in admiring the church decorations which had Lcen most tastefully arranged by a number of the bride's old school-fellows. There was a full choir, aud the ceremony was a semi choral one, " The Voice That Breathed O'er Eden," being feelingly sung as the bride entered the church. The Rev. R. O'U, Biggs officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, was never seen to better advantage. She was attired in a lovely soft-figured silk, the bodice arranged with a yoke of chiffon embroidered with pearl passementerie, relieved with sprays of orange blossoms and completed by the usual wreath and veil. She carried a shower bouquet of Mandevillia, orange blossoms and maiden hair. The bridesmaids—Miss Inez Sandes (sister to the bride) and Miss Ada Palairet (sister to the bridegroom)— were prettily gowned in pale primrose, with satin sashes to match. They wore dainty white straw hats trimmed with pale yellow. In place of the customary bouquet, they each carried true lover's knots in white flowers, finished with white ribbons. The former wore a gold bangle set with rubies, aud the latter a gold brooch set with sapphires, the gifts of the bridegroom, who was supported by his brother, Mr F. Palairet, of Gisborne, and Mr W. H. Hume. His gift to the bride was a handsome gold watch aud chain. At the close of the ceremony the "Wedding March" was nicely played by Miss Hilda Graham, who acted as organist, aud the happy pair left the Church amidst showers of rice, rose leaves and gpod wishes. By this time the sun was shining beautifully, and, if this is to be taken emblematically, there is a large mead of happiness in store lor Mr and Mrs Palairet, and we sincerely hope that such will prove the case. A large number of intimate friends were entertained at breakfast at the residence of the bride's parents, and the happy coup!c left for the Thames by the express train at noon, the station platform being crowded with friends aud well-wishers to bid them good-bye. The presents, which were numerous and costly, included a silver tea and coffee servico and hot water jug from the fellow-employed of the bridegroom, who holds a good position in Messrs E. Porter & Co.'s establishment, Auckland.
