Opponents in the Senate to the ratification of the Spanish - American Peace Treaty urge the largest measure of home rule feasible for the Philippines. Senator Foraker's declaration in the Senate that President McKinley only desired the retention of the Philippines until the group is cap-* able of autonomy, excited a Bensation. Hongkong, January 12. The Filipino Committee in Hongkong are suing the American Consul for the recovery of 47,000 dollars, alleged to have been received by him as treasurer of the Independence fund.
