INTERCOLONIAL YACHTING.
VICTORY FOR THE AUCKLAND BOATS. (BY telegraph.— press association). Auckland, Last Night. The first trial of three tests for the Intercolonial Yacht Championship prize of £IOO, came off this afternoon, under a fair breeze. The course was triangular, which gave a lead down the harbour, a beat down the Rangitoto Channel and a run up the harbour, twice round the course, totalling 18 miles. Nine started, viz. :—Geisha, Rymill Bros'., Adelaide ; Bronzewing IV., Horrlern, junr., Sydney ; Mercia, Logan Bros'. ; Laurel, C. Bailey; Alma, [Jaky and Howe ; Mahoe, Stoney Bios'. ; Maka Maile, J. Clare ; Veuora, F. Price, r.f Howick ; Waitekauri, C. Collin-. The Mercia won easily by several minutes, Laurel second, Alma third, Geisha fourth, Bronzewing in the ruck. The three placed boats were all built by Auuklund boatbuilders. The Mercia which was fifth in getting away, got her lead in the Rangitoto Channel, and increased it to the finish.
