♦ > Concert.—A concert in aid of the Aoglican organ fund was held in the Taupici Hall on Friday, 16th inat., and although the weather was unsettled the pronuters were well pleased with the result, between £6 and £7 being taken, which will clear cff the debt and leave nearly £2 in hand. Mr F. Lloyd as secretary was untiling, and presented au instrumental and vocal programme superior to any previous local effort. The Overture in the first part, "The Fairy Queen," Miss Cox and Mr E. V. Ralph, and an instrumental setting of the old Ethiopian melody, " Mussa's in the Cold Cold Ground," Mr E. V. Ralph, in the second part were musical treats highly appreciated by the audience. The negro choruses by Mr F. Lloyd's amateur company,consisting of Misses Cox and Wilson, Mesdames J. T. W. Cox and XV. Fuller, and Messrs E. E. Cox, J. T. \V. Cox and F. L'oyd, were as usuil a feature of the entertainment, and the trio, " Three Old Maids of Lee," by the Misses Butcher and Paterson, in character, received a well-deserved encore ; " Soldiers of the Queen," Mr E. B. Cox ; " Giddy Polka," Mr F. Lloyd ; and several other solos were also encored, but where all the items were excellent it would be invidious to make comparison. The following was the programme :—Overture, " The" Fairy Queen," Miss Cox and Mr Ralph ; song, " The Lost Chord," Rev. Bradbury ; sotig, " Alan Water," Miss G. Butcher ; duet, " The Pilot," Mr and Mrs Davis ; song, •' Afton Water," Miss Paterson; song, "The Anchor's Weighed," Mr J. T. W. Cox ; song, " Giddy Polka," Mr F. Lloyd ; song, " The Ivy Green," Miss Butcher ; Part ll.—Plantation aong, " Old Binjo " (Mr Lloyd's), Company; instrumental solo, " Massa's in the Cnld, cold Ground," Mr Ralph ; song, " Soldiers of the Queen," Mr E. B. Cox; song, "A Highland Lad," Mrs W. Fuller ; song, " When my Rover," Miss Lovell; aong, '«Sancta Maria," Rev. Bradbury ; song, " Maggie's Secret," Mrs W. Fuller; song, " Puzzles," Mr F. Lloyd; trio, "Three Old Maids," Misses Butcher and Paterson; chorus, " Tis Very Queer" (Mr Lloyd's), Company ; God Save the Queen. Tennis. —The Taupiri tennis courts will be opened ou Wednesday, the 21st. They have been recently laid down and fenced at a considerable cost, in Onslow Park, and, with cricket aud tenuis both going, the Park will look bright aud attractive during the summer. Great credit is due to our popular schoolmister, Mr J. T. W. Cox, for the manner in which he has worked tennis up in Taupiii.—(Own Correspondent.)
