A YARRA MYSTERY.
[UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT). Melbourne, December 19. Two boys found a trunk floating on the Yarra at Richmond, containing the nude decomposing body of a woman, wrapped in old sacking. It had evidently been in the water for a considerable time. The inquiry shows that the deceased was about 30, and enceinte, but there was no mark of violence or an illegal operation. Apparently the body had been in the water less than a fortnight. The doctor's opinion is that chloroform had been administered by an unskilful person for the purposo of performing an illegal operation, but resulted fatally. There is no clue to the identification of the victim, who, it is believed, came from the country.
