WAITETUNA
School Examination.—On Monday, 14th inst., Mr Petric, Chief Inspector of Schools, conducted the annual standard examination at the WaitetUDa School, when all the pupils examined passed but two. The result must be exceedingly gratifying to the teacher, Miss Harper, and satisfactory to the parents of the children. The inspector's report of the discipline and conduct, of the school throughout was also a satisfactory one. Unfortunately, through departures of several families from the district, the attendance at the school has fallen off considerably. Social.—The next social and dance under the auspices of the Waitetuna Social Club will be held in the schoolroom on Friday evening, 25th inat. Weather. One of the severest thunderstorms experienced for many years passed over this district early on Wednesday morning, accompanied by heavy rain, hail and wind. The lightning was most vivid. Next day hailstones the size of largo marbles lay thick on the ground in many places.—(Own Correspondent).
