RAGLAN.

Annual Sports.—At a meeting held at the Harbour View Hotel on Saturday evening last, it was decided to hold the annual sports meeting on Friday, 30th December. A good selection of officers was made, and a strong committee appointed for carrying them out. Posters with the programme have been printed at the Argus office, and are now being distributed. In the evening a public ball will be eiven in the hall.

Public Works Estimates.—Many parts of the Raglan and Kawhia dis tricts seem to have been remembered in the Estimates, and substantial sums voted for public works, but it remains to be seen whether the money will be spent or not.

School Matters.—lnspector Petrio has during the last week been engaged inspecting the schools in this district. At the Raglan school all the children except four passed in the various standards, and Mr Petrie expressed himself as very pleased at the conduct of the school and the result of the examination.

Police Inspection.—lnspector Cullen arrived by Wednesday's coach on his first visitm inspection to this district. Wither.—Last Tuesday night, about 11 p.m., a very heavy thunderstorm passed over the district. Heavy rain, with hail, continued for an hour or so. Fine weather is much required. Flax and "Wool.—lt is many years since so much flax came into Raglan for shipment. "Wool, too is coming in fast, shearing going on when weather permits. The Te Akau shearing of 10,000 sheep, commences this week. Shearers are busy everywhere. (Own Correspondent).
