o Rowing Clitb.—On Wednesday, the 12th inst., a meeting of members of the Rowing Club was held in the Town Hall. The resignation of Mr fl. E. Burr as Captain and a member of the Club was accepted with regret, and Mr E. Rathborne was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy. It was decided to open the season with trial fours on Wednesday, November 2nd, and intending competitors were requested to hand in their names as soon as possible. This concluded the business. Regatta Meeting. On the same evening as the Rowing Club meeting, the Executive Committee of the regatta met, Mr Davies occupying the chair. The minutes of the annual meeting were passed as read. There was a considerable amount of discussion on various matters. On the motion of Mr Haulon it was decided to hold the regatta as usual on March 17th. As there was no time for further business, it was resolved that the committee should meet ou Wednesday evening, the 19th inst., to draw up a Maori circular. Farewell Concert.—A farewell concert was tendered on Thursday, the 13th inst., to Mr W. Vant, who is takmc his departure for Engluud. Mr Vant has taken an active interest in the Wesleyan Church in this township for many years. The concert arrangements were made by the Rev. Dr. Hosking, who presided during the evening. The programme was as followß :—Pianoforte solo, "The Old Folks at Home," Miss Nixon ; song, "Ora Pro Nobis," Miss Gertie Hunt; recitation, " Domestic Asides," Miss Hunt; song, " The Old Ferryman," Miss Butcher;song, "Nazareth,"Dr. Hoskiug; song, " The Sligo," Mr Goodwin ; recitation, Mr Vaut ; song, "The Toilers," Miss G. Butcher ; pianoforte so'o, " The Bells of Aberdovy," Miss Nixon ; song, " The Little Hero," Dr. Hosking ; song, " The Gift," Miss G. Hunt. Dr. Hoskiug then gave a short speech, and in his closing remarks wished Mr Vant a pleasant trip home. The proceedings were enlivened throughout by the remarks of the Doctor, and although the audience was somewhat rowdy, all seemed to enjoy themselves. Debating SociKTr.—On Friday, the 14th, the usual fortnightly meeting of the Debating Society was held, the Rev. A. M. Bradbury in the chair. The evening was taken up with "Electioneering Speeches," the candidates being Messrs Morris, Skcltnn, 1). MoKenzie, G. Roper, F. Hunt and Hanlon and Miss Paterson. After the candidates had addressed the meeting, the Chairman asked for questions ; but, no doubt, owing to the fuct that the proposals ranged from rank Conservatism to the most advanced Liberalism, the audience seemed to be quite satisfied. A poll was then taken, which resulted in the election of Mr F. Hunt. The present session will be closed with a coucert and dance on Novembsr 4th. Waipa Bridge.—The Waipa Bridge is now all but completed, and will be formally opened ou Wednesday, the 19th inst., at 3 p.m.—(Own Correspondent).
