THE MAIN TRUNK LINE.

(by telegram—press association). Wellington, Last Night. Several Auckland and Turanaki members of the House and Council this afternoou met a deputation, consisting of Messrs Shera and Cheal, sent from Auckland in connection with the demands for the construction of the Stratford route of the North Island Main Trunk Railway. Messrs Shera and Cheal placed before the meeting the resolution which it is proposed to hand the Government, and which urges upon the Government the desirability, in the best interests of the colony, of proceeding with the construction of the Stratford route. On the motion of Sir Maurice O'Rorke it was decided to agree with the resolution, and also to accompany the deputation when it submits it to the Government.
