AUCKLAND NEWS.

(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION). Auckland, Last Night. Yesterday afternoon a young man Darned Albert Edward Hatton, proprietor of the " Stitchwell" factory, cut his throat in his office at the factory, Newton Road. He was removed to the Hospital, where he died this evening. He was well known in Auckland, and was most popular. He had no relatives in the colony. The cause of the act is supposed to have beeu business worries, for which, however, it is thought, there was no necessity.

At the inquest on David Walsh, a miner who was found hanging on a tree in Patterson's garden, an open verdict was returned.

J. Eraser, who left Waiheke alone in the yacht Dandy for Great Barrier over a week ago, has never arrived. He was engaged iu the fishing trade. Capt, Gratt, master mariner, aged 65, was found dead in bed at the Sailor's Home. The cause was heart disease.

A meeting of citizens has been called for to-morrow in connection with the present Main Trunk Railway agitation. It is proposed the gathering should take the form of an indignation meeting to protest against the action of the Auckland members in the matter of the Stratford route.
