MR CHAMBERLAIN.
VISITING AMERICA. ANGLO - AMERICAN ALLIANCE. (UY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT). NEW York, September 9. The Eight Hon. Joseph Chamberlain has arrived here and has been interviewed by a representative of the New York Herald. He stated that England is awaiting the terms of America for establishing closer relations between the two countries. England would consent to anything of a reasonable nature. Mr Chamberlain confirmed the report of an agreement arrived at between Great Britain and Germany respecting the settlement of territorial differences in Africa. With reference to the British victory in the Soudan, he admitted that the intention of the British Government was immediately to continue the railway from Atbara to Khartoum. It would probably be carried right through to the Cape Colony within the lifetime of the present generation.
