PATERANGI.
Improvement Society.—The meetings of this society are held regularly every' fortnight, and are always well attended ; owing to indisposition I was unable to attend the last two meetings and could not, therefore, report them. Thursday last was ladies' evening, and I am told it was very good. Miss Ross sail!* " Lassie " and Miss Germauu " The Carnival," Mr John Kay gave the " Romany Lass," Mr Arthur Hall recited " King Robert of Sicily,' 1 Miss E. Mucky aud Mr John Ohye gave readings which were much appreciated At the previous meering essays were read, among which was one by Mr George Finch on " Charitable Aid And Its Abuses," which afforded scope for criticism. A very good practical piper was given by Mr John Karl on " Bee-keep-ing," which was much appreciated, and Mr Karl deserves preat credit for the able manner in which he put his subject before his hearers. Being a practical apiarist, he could write from experience, and the paper was not only interesting but also instructive.
Farming Matters.—l am informed that a large area of grain will be sown in this district this season. The Messrs Macky will head the list with 150 acres, Mr Rae 125, others 70, (30 and 50 and a number below that. A considerable area of dun oats is already up and wheat is now being drilled in. The season is well advanced ; but the cows do nots3em to be in good enough condition to commence a season's work. Our creamery opens on September Ist.—(Own Correspondent).
