The Post understands that what may be termed the Chtckett-Blyth cases, arising out of the late Sunday trading charges, have heeu formally settled. After the withdrawal of the charges against Mr T. Taylor, M.H.R, Checketts and Armishaw, they, through they solicitors, claimed damages for malicious prosecution. They did not ask for heavy damages ; but sufficient to cover the costs and charges they had incurred. This was conceded by Mrs Blyth, and has been accepted by the other side, so that the cases may now be considered closed. Mr Taylor, the Post believes, declined to accept any consideration beyond his actual law costs ; but, besides these, Checketts aud Armishavv received £lO each. At the Divorce Court to-day, in the case Ada Eastwood v. Jas. Eastwood, wife's petition on the grounds of cuelty and desertion, a decree nisi was granted. Decrees in the Ferguson v. Ferguson and Greenfield v. Greenfield were made absolute. Wm, Cranmer v. Alice Cranmer, husband's petition for adultery, was adjourned tor the production of the marriage certificate. At the Magistrate's Court to day, Alfred Laws, bookmaker, was charged with laying totalisator odds on the Hutfc racecourse and betting with an infant. Both cases were dismi-sed. Catherine Smith was lined £5 for wilfully neglecting a child hired out to her to keep. Pahiatua, Last Nig lit. A young man, named James Boon, was killed bush-felling at Kakoinaki. Christchurch, Last Night. Umslopagaas has been scratched for all engagements at the National Meeting. The entries of Seabreeze have been acceptfidjby the Cauterbury Jockey Club for the National Meeting, as it has been proved that her owner's name was in the unpaid forfeit list in error. Her weight in the Maiden Hurdles is list 31b, and in the Enfield Steeplechase lOst 51b.
