TE AWAMUTU.

Town Boarp.—A meeting of the Town Board was held during the latter end of last week. The Commissioners present were: Messrs J. L. Mandeno (chairman), Geo. Ahier, J. R. Gibson aDd J. B. Teasdale. It was decided to call tenders for the carting of about 200 yards of gravel from the county pits for gravelling the various footpaths and streets in the town district. A lengthy discussion took place with regard to the Puniu Domain Recreation Ground being let for grazing purposes. It was resolved that a deputation wait on Mr Walton, the chairman of the Domain Board, on his next visit to Te Awamutu, with a view to having the domain vested in the Town Board. The accounts passed lor payment were : W. Bearsley, £9 33 ; C. Bygrave, £6 8s; Anderson, 18s; T. Smith, ss. Accident.—An accident, which tends to show how easily a person's arm may be fractured, happened in the township on Thursday morning to Master Matthew Shaw,' son of Mr W. Shaw, of Rangiaohia. While the lad was dismounting his horse at the post-office stand, his foot became fast in the stirrup for a moment, which caused him to over-balance and fall backwards on to his arm, which broke instantly between the elbow and wrist. The young sufferer was taken up to Dr. Pairman, who attended to the injured limb. Sickness.—The many friends of Mr C. A. Taylor, our popular bank manager, will regret to hear that owing to severe illness he has been compelled to take a holiday. Mr Hill, from the Auckland office, is in temporary charge of the agency. Soirek.—The annua! soiree iu connection with the Presbyterian Church, Waikato West District, takes place in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening next. The new minister, the Rev. Walter Smith, of Ngaruawahia, is to be inducted to the charge of the church. The service will be held in the Te Awamutu church at four o'clock in the afternoon, when the Rev. Mr Milne, of St. Andrew's, Auckland, and other ministers will be present. The gathering in the evening is expected to exceed those of previous years. Ngaroto Drainage Board.—The first election of the Board of Trustees of the newly-formed Ngaroto Drainage District, which was to have been held on the 18th May, did not take place, owing to there not being sufficient time for the rolls being prepared and revised as required by the Act. Application waa made to the Colonial-Secretary for extension of time, and the Returning Officer has been notified by the Gazettee, dated 19th May, that His Excellency, the Governor, has been pleased to extend the time for holding the election of the Board of Trustees from the 18th May to Wednesday, the 6th July ; and also to extend the time for holding the first meeting of the Trustees from the 25th May to Wednesday, the 13th July. —(Own Correspondent).
