MESSRS McNICOL AND CO.'S SHEEP FAIR.
On Thursday last Messrs McNicol and Co. held their third sheep fair. About 7000 sheep were yarded ; all of a good class and in good condition, and u great number fat and fit for the butcher. The laßt few days being so wet, it was rather trying to those flocks that had to come a long distance ; but for all that, the sheep looked well in the pens. There waa a splendid line of lambs (about 600) from the Patatere district, realising top price, 7s 10d. Mr C. Storey had a good line of cros-sbred wethers, about 500, which were sold in one lot at 8s 4d. The highest price realised was lis 4d, for a pen of fat wethers from Te Kuiti ; fab ewes also sold well up to 10s 3d. The sale was certainly a gcod one and prices were fully 2s 6d a-head higher than at last fair. The bidding was brisk from start to finish, no dwelling on the lots and all were sold under the hammer, with the exception of one pen that was afterwards sold privately. Some lines were disposed of iu the yards before the sale commenced ; several of the Fellers informing me they got over two shillings a-head more than they expected. The following are the prices realised :---1 pen lougwool lambs, 6s 9d ; 1 pen four and Bix-tooth wethers, 9s ; 1 pen fat ewes, 9s 6d ; 1 pen longwool wethers, 9s 4d ; a line of longwool wethers, 9s 2d ; 1 pen fat ewes, 8s 5d ; 1 pen do., 6s 5d ; 1 pen Merino ewes, 2s 4d ; 1 pen ewes and wethers (mixed), 8s Id ; 1 pen do., 8s 6d; 2 penß longwool wethers, 10s 3d ; 2 pens do., 8s 6d ; 2 pens do., 9s 6d ; 2 pens do., 9s ; 1 pen lambs, 7s 9d ; 4 peus do., 7s 6d ; 4 pens do., 7s lOd ; 2 pens grey face lambs, 6s Sd ; 2 pons do , 7s ; 1 pen longwool lambs, 7s 2d ; I pen small lambs, 4s 6d ; 1 pen fat wethers, 10s lid; 1 pen empty crossbred ewes, 6s 3d ; 1 pen crossbred lambs, 6s 2d ; 1 pen do., 6s ; 2 pens fat ewes, 10s 3d ; 1 pen do., 9s ; 1 pen ewes,6s lOd ; 1 pen ewe lambs, 68 Id ; 2 do. wethers, 7s 7d ; 1 pen lambs, 5s 3d ; 2 pens fat ewea, 9s 4d ; 1 pen ewes, 5s 3d ; 2 pens fat ewes, 9s 4d ; 1 pen ewes, 5s 3d ; 1 pen fat wethers, lis 4d ; a line of crossbred ewes in lamb, low condition, 5s lOd ; 3 pens do,, 5s 7d; 2 pens empty ewes, 6s 8d ; 3 pens crossbred wethers, 9s ; 1 pen do., 6s lOd ; 1 pen do., 6s Id ; 2 peu3 lambs, 5s Id ; 1 pen do., 5s 9d ; 3 pens full-mouth empty ewes, 7s Id ; 1 pen do., 8s 4d ; a line of 500 crossbred wethers in good condition, 8s 4d ; 1 pen half-bred wethers, 7a lid.
