NGARUAWAHIA
Silver Wedding.—On Thursday, the 12th May, Mr aud Mrs T. Paterson cele brated their silver wedding with a dance The above-mentioned couple have now been resident in the district for Borne considerable time, during which they have earned the goodwill and esteem of all those who know them, and as a natural result they have numerous friends not only in Ngaruawahia, but in all parts of the Waikato. Mr Paterson has always taken a lively interest in everything for the advancement of this township, while Mrs Paterson comes into prominence at all kinds of entertainments both for young and old, more especially in supplying the wants of the inner man. Aa a proof of the high respect in which they were held by the public, I may mention the fact that the Ngaruawahia people took this opportunity of showing their appreciation of them by presenting them with a handsome tea and c< ffee service. The presentation was made by Mrs Kay, who spoke in high terms of the valuable services they had rendered to the public in general, and of their everreadiness to con.e forward and assist in all that was going on. She also wished them every happiness in the future. At about 7 o'clock the guests began to arrive in large numbers from far and near, and all sat down to dinner prepared by the hostess. After dinner the whole company adjourned to the barn, which had been tastefully decorated for the occasion. Dancing was commenced and kept up with spirit till the small hours of the morning. Songs were sung during the evening by Messrs Lloyd, Hunt, Pater son and Carton, and Miss Paterson, and a recitation was given by Mr T. U. Wells. Altogether a very pleasant evening was spent, and Mr and Mrs Paterson may rest assured that they will ever have a high place in the estimation of the people of Ngaruawahia. Debate.—The debate, " Married Life v. Single/' which should have come off on Friday last, and which has aroused a considerable amount of interest among the young people, had to be postponed till to-morrow (Wednesday), or. account of the inclemency of the weather.— (Own Correspondent).
