McCarthy, an employee at the sugarworks, on returning from work found the bedroom door locked, and on forcing it, discovered his wife lying on the floor with a severe wound on her forehead, and deep gashes on her temple, throat aud breast. His two daughters, aged 9 and 4, were dead beside their mother, their heads being buttered in. A boy, six years of age, had his head also battered, and is in a critical condition. A heavy hammer and a bloodstained razor were found in the room. The woman regained consciousness later on, and practically admitted killing her children. It is stated she had been worried lately, and had suffered from severe pains in the head.
