ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
(BY TELEGRAPH—OWN COBRESPONDENT). Auckland, Last Night. The annual report of the Acclimatisation Society shows the year's operations at the hatchery to have been fairly successful. The" Rainbow trout have spawned well, yielding more than 300,000 ova. About 70,000 were sold to other societies, and the balance placed .in the hatching house. The following is a list of the distributions made :—Lakes and streams in Rotorua County, 9000 ; streams in Upper Waikato, 34,000; streams in Waipa Valley, 14.500 ; Raglan district, 4400 ; between Waikato and Auckland, 5000; Northern districts, 5000—Total, 72,300- In nearly all cases the fry were placed in the streams with a very small percentage of loss. A considerable number still remain in the ponds, and will be. lib ;rated as soon as the weather is sufficiently cool. Fairly successful trout fishing has been obtained during the year in most of the streams of the Upper Thames Valley. Trout are fast becoming plentiful in the Upper Waipa and its tributaries. A consider able quantity of trout have been caught, and cither sold at Rotorua or exported for sale.
