WELLINGTON ELECTION.
MR DUTHIK RETURNED. MAJORITY 1033. (BT TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT). Wellington, Last Night. The greatest interest is being displayed over the election. Both sides are sanguine, but are working assiduously. In a speech made by the Hon. J. McKeuzie in the course of the electoral struggle, he stated that the Government had purchased 2,260,000 acres in the North Island, at a cost of £558,000, and 155,842 acres of first-class land in the South Island at a cost of £663,929, over a mildou pounds being thus spect in putting people on the land. Mr Scobie McKenz : e delivered a spceoli last night to further Mr Duthie's candidature. He got a splendid reception. In the course of his address lie said that Tammany had long been a acorn and disgrace in America, where it had grown into a big tree, but some persons had planted a sturdy sapling of that stock in this colony, and it must be cut down.
