SPORTING.

SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.

The acceptances for the South Auckland meeting, to be held on Saturday next, are satisfactory to the highest degree. In the Trial Handicap there are 12 horses engaged, in the Hurdles 8, in the Cup 12, in the Pony Race 12, in the Steeplechase 6, iu the Claudelands Handicap 15, in the Trot 12, and iu the Flying Handicap 16 ; so that notwithstanding the extraordinary inconsistency of some of the handicaps at the Rotorua, Cambridge, Te Aroha and Hamilton meetings, all framed by Mr Evett, horseow ners appear to be fairly well satisfied with the adjustments at the South Auckland gathering at any rate. At present there seems to be every prospect that the meeting will be the most successful one the Club has held for years. The privileges in connection with the meeting were sold by Mr John Knox at the Hamilton Auction Mart on Saturday last as follows :—Grandstand bar, £2O, Mr Preston; booth No. 1, £4, Mr J. Bettley ; booth No. 2, £2, Mr G. Edgccumbe ; cards, £5 10s, Waikato Akgtjs ; horse paddock, £1 ISs, Mr J. Devitt. An offer ot £36 was made for the gates, but the Club decided to hold them. Bonnie Blue, Misshot and Every Time arrived from Rotorua on Saturday to fulfil their engagements on March sth. The course has been receiving a good deal ot attention at the hands of the Ground Committee, and although it is nice and smooth, the lengthened spell of dry weather has made it fearfully hard, and a day or two's rain would be most acceptable.
