WAIKATO AMATEUR ATHLETIC SPORTS.

The secretary of the Waikato Amateur Athletic Club has received the following letter from Mr A. Grant, District Traffic Manager, regarding the train arrangements for January 29th (sports day) : " On Anniversary Day the usual excursion train will run to Paeroa and back as follows: Leave Auckland, 7am.; arrive Hamilton, 11.24 a.m.; arrive Paeroa, 1.10 p.m. Return special will leave Pieroa at 5 p.m., Hamilton West at 6.45 p.m., arriving at Aucklaud at 11.15 p.m. The fares will be from Auckland, Oaehunga, and stations in direct line of route to Te Aroha—l2s first-class, and 7s 3d second class. To Paeroa— l3s 6d first, and 8s second. These arrangements should suit the Auckland contingent admirably, and if fixed specially could not have been timed more conveniently. The Hamilton Band has been engaged to play a lengthy programme of choice musical items, and this will no cloub; prove an addit onal attraction to the public. Sydney Square was simply alive with runners and 'cyclists last evening, and some really good work was put in, but we shall refrain from particularieing until after the declaration of the handicaps. The track was in nice condition, and although a few showeis of rain would make a wonderful improvement, when the loose stones are removed it will be in real good trim, anyhow.
